Introducing my Patreon page

June 29, 2020 by Lisa Lehmann

The last blog post I wrote on February 11 was right after my mom passed away. Also. It was the day before I found out I had breast cancer. Who knew on that day my life would go into a complete tailspin? Since then so many things have happened. To me personally. To our world. To our country. To say life has given me lemons this year is a massive understatement. However? Oh, the lemonade I have had!

To say life has given me lemons this year is a massive understatement. However? Oh, the lemonade I have had!

I have had to dig deep, very deep, just to get through each day. But I also have a business to run. A business that I love. That I truly cherish. Not because of the income, but because it’s my passion, and the people it has brought into my life…that would be you…mean the world to me. What this meant was doing some serious thinking about the future of Lisa Lehmann Designs. What is next? How do I best continue? What best supports my passion, what I love to create, and my time in the studio? And what supports my clients, my friends and gives them more. How can I best serve, birth new designs, and maintain a sustainable business without exhausting myself and bombarding my clients? How can I reward loyalty and follow my artistic vision?

My short term walking away from the studio in January to care for my mom turned into something I would rather not repeat. For a while, I thought I would lose my business. I thought maybe it’s just time to raise the white flag. Yet. You stood by me.

I have learned MANY lessons this season. One. Is loyalty. From people who are way more than customers to me. Two. Is being innovative when I wasn’t sure I had it in me. And three. The art of asking for help and receiving it. I literally could not do things on my own.

I have learned MANY lessons this season. One. Is loyalty.

Tuesday Tell All

December 10, 2019 by Lisa Lehmann

15 days until Christmas. What? That is crazy. Crazy I say!

I am all studio all the time right now…but here are a few of my favorite things I want to share with you!

favorite items of the week

What am I looking at?

This is a bit weird…I will admit…but yet strangely fascinating!  This animation of sorts of the most popular TV shows from 1986-2019. I can’t stop watching! Also. I bet you look for more! LOL.

What am I reading?

Tuesday Tell All

November 19, 2019 by Lisa Lehmann

Often I find myself amazed about what other people know about. Meaning. Things they have discovered! Songs I’ve never heard. Books I’ve never read. Obsessions they have that never even crossed my radar! Through them, I am able to uncover new things. Develop my own obsessions. And the cycle continues!

I thought it might be fun to start my own “tell-all”. A recap of the last week or so. What has grabbed my attention? What I think YOU might love. What you just might happen to “need”.

So, Lisa’s Tuesday Tell-All has been born!

What am I reading?

My daughter judges me on this one. I often hear…you’re not reading…you’re listening. Potatoes PoTAHtoes. A book is a book. And seriously? How many of us have time to sit down and really enjoy a book? I listen to books ALL the time. I find them perfect for in the studio and my drives into the “big city”. This past week I have been engrossed in a book called “The Library“. It’s an interesting look at the fire that destroyed the Los Angeles public library. But it’s so much more than that. You get to look INSIDE the walls of a library. And maybe fall in love with this beloved institution all over again. [Read more…] about Tuesday Tell All

On being me

July 3, 2019 by Lisa Lehmann

I haven’t written much lately. Much of my story isn’t just mine to be told. So instead? Silence. Easier on everyone. I have struggled with what to write. Everything seemed too…fluffy.

What I CAN write about is what I have discovered about myself. Through years of struggling with insecurities. Wrestling with insignificance. Battling depression. I have learned more about being me. Myself. Living with who I am is not easy, but I am hoping for gentle acceptance even as I pen the words. Acceptance of me for me. Finding the best within myself. Learning to celebrate it. So, lest you think I’m writing this for you…don’t be disillusioned!

I am an artist. First and foremost.

I am an artist. First and foremost. Many say those words, and for them they are true. But being an artist and doing art is very different. In fact. I think you can be an artist without actually doing something within what others may think of as “the field of art”. BEING an artist is often more of a personality trait. My personality traits. And sometimes that can make me feel tormented. Emotional. Heavy. Wild of heart. Vibrant on some days. Melancholy on others. Seeing color in everything. And creative possibility in every corner. Feeling. Oh, so much feeling. And most importantly? Vastly misunderstood. This is not a complaint or a cry to be heard. It’s my reality. And if you are an artist, you understand. But sometimes. Often. It’s lonely.

The love of a parent

January 18, 2019 by Lisa Lehmann

Parent love. Being a human almost always dictates that you were a child….first. Someone’s child. Maybe you had a mom and dad. All families look different. But that really doesn’t matter. A family is family and you grew up somewhere.

Being a child is somewhat an odd thing. Because no matter what age you are, you are ALWAYS someone’s child. But those rolls change so much over the course of a lifetime, don’t they?

no matter what age you are, you are ALWAYS someone’s child

As an infant, you are completely dependent on your mother. For food. For clothing. For every basic need. You clearly would not survive without someone taking care of you. For most of us that is our mother. We grew in her womb. We heard her voice first. Felt her touch first. Looked into her eyes first. She was our first love.
And then toddlerhood. Oh, how we begin to idolize those or that parent in our life. They seem like rock stars to us. Larger than life. The sun rises and sets with them. The love that flows from them to us? It feeds us, sustains us, contents us.

In elementary school, we start to push and pull a little bit. More of a push, then run back! A little bitty scratch sends us running to mama. A slight tummy ache, we need consoling. We just are starting to explore our boundaries a bit. How far before we need to come back to that security we depend on. We still need them for so so much. We rely on them. They are our world.
